All Natural Body Butter
This super easy moisturizer is great for the face and body. I chose to use shea butter as the main ingredient because it is non-comedogenic, making it a great moisturizing agent for nearly all skin types. It is easily absorbed by the skin and doesn’t make you appear oily, like many other oils are prone to doing. Shea butter is also anti-inflammatory, meaning it may minimize skin irritation caused by environmental conditions such as dry weather, or inflammatory conditions like eczema. It also contains high levels of Vitamins A and E which are important anti-aging agents that protect the skin from premature aging.
The essential oils that you choose to use in your moisturizer are completely up to you, although I recommend choosing ones that are “skin-friendly".” Lavender has very calming effects that might ameliorate any inflammation that is occurring on the skin. Tea tree has antibacterial properties and is commonly used to prevent acne. Rosemary is a refreshing astringent and antioxidant that can also reduce inflammation and help fight bacteria that cause acne outbreaks. Its calming effects are useful in treating many dermatological conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis as well.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup shea butter
2 tbsp carrier oil of choice (I used sweet almond oil)
1 dropper full of liquid Vitamin E (optional)
10 drops lavender essential oil
5 drops tea tree essential oil
5 drops rosemary essential oil
Method:
In a double boiler (or glass bowl over a 1/4 full pot of water), over medium-low heat melt the shea butter until it is completely liquified.
Add in the nourishing oil and turn off the heat. Stir to combine.
Place the bowl in the freezer to allow it to cool and set back into a solid form (it took mine about 15 mins)
Remove the bowl from the freezer once it is solid and add in the essential oils and Vitamin E. Mix well for about a minute until all ingredients are well combined and the moisturizer is a smooth consistency.
Scoop moisturizer into a jar.
Make sure to keep your moisturizer in a cool, dark place with the lid tightly secured. Store at room temperature.
